The Art of Song

presents

Opera-Palooza!

Wednesday, May 28 2008, 7:30pm

College Street United Church

454 College St., Toronto, ON

Wow!  What to say?  Here we are already in the month of May collectively wondering if this winter would ever end, yet at the same time puzzled at the slippery passage of time.  As it is, we are now quickly approaching the close of this season of The Art of Song.  It is with great pleasure we announce our final offering of this concert year, “Opera-Palooza”!  I can already hear your gasping at the naming, but I was not going to go down the title path of yet another “Night at the Opera”.  So, “Opera-Palooza” it is!

This evening brings together all the performance artists of Atelier S performing some of the most beautiful and compelling music of the French, German and Italian operatic traditions.  On the menu will be solo and ensemble excerpts from Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann”, Massenet’s “Werther”, Korngold’s “Die tote Stadt”, Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus” and concluding with two major excerpts from Puccini’s “Il Tabarro” featuring several artists that will be performing this work on tour throughout Mexico this summer with Atelier S’ Summer Vocal Academy in Queretaro and Mexico City.  Once again, I am very happy to welcome back the collaboration of our pianist Dr. Christopher Foley for this event.

On a somewhat sad note, this will be the last Atelier S production in Toronto for the foreseeable future as we are moving our operations and focus to Mexico.  In project with the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, México en Movimiento and the Embassy of Canada (Mexico City), Atelier S will be working for the promotion of Canadian lyric talent within the latin market.  For current information, please refer to our website and its page for the Summer Academy.  Our current mandate takes us to the end of the 2009-10 season in Mexico.

All proceeds from “Opera-Palooza” will go to the scholarship fund for the Atelier S Summer Vocal Academy – Mexico to help deserving talent participate in this wonderful showcase opportunity.

I would like to take this moment to profoundly thank you for your wonderful support and continued encouragement in the development of Atelier S.  I sincerely hope to have the pleasure to see you in our audience for this final concert of “The Art of Song”.

Please read on for full concert details.

Most sincerely,

Stuart Graham
