Jennifer Rasor is known both for her beautiful soprano voice and for her remarkable acting abilities. With her sparkling personality she is very much at home on the stage as the mischievous soubrette or as the innocent ingénue. She is a flexible crossover performer comfortable in many different genres of stage work.
Jennifer’s most recent adventure was with Tapestry New Opera Works tour of the anti-violence opera for children, Elijah’s Kite by James Rolfe. This production will “fly” again in 2007/ 2008. Other stage highlights include operatic roles like Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Gilda in Rigoletto with Zwei-Groschen-Oper in Germany, Papagena in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Adele in Die Fledermaus & "The Voice from Heaven" in Don Carlo with l'Opéra de Montréal, Noye’s Fludde with Toronto’s Britten Celebrations (for CBC television) under the late Nicholas Goldschmidt, Lucy in The Telephone with l'Atelier Lyrique de l'Opéra de Montréal, Laetitia in Menotti’s opera The Old Maid and The Thief with Montreal’s Opera Midi, several Gilbert & Sullivan heroines, and musical theatre works such as The Good Doctor and Brigadoon.
Concert works include her Kingston Symphony debut premiering the piece Song of Sunset by Canadian composer Mark Sirett, Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras for soprano and eight cellos with the Toronto’s Mooredale Concert Series, Carmina Burana with Montreal’s Musica Orbium, Vivaldi's Gloria & Bach's Magnificat with the Ottawa Choral Society, Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt incidental music Opus 23 with both the National Arts Centre in Ottawa & the l'Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, Dvorak's Te Deum with l'Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, Mozart's Exsultate, Jubilate with the Montreal Chamber Orchestra, and Thomson’s Stabat Mater with Montreal’s Choeur Radio Ville-Marie, Arlan Schultz’s Edifice (CBC Radio Premier) and John Rutter’s Requiem in British Columbia.
Jennifer’s beginnings in British Columbia were with Stock Company Theatre Companies and Gilbert & Sullivan Societies. She now resides in Toronto, where she does a variety of stage work; everything from oratorio and opera to contemporary works.
